How we support children and young people
Under-18s can get in touch for support directly or you can contact us on their behalf with their consent.
We also deliver specialist support for young people who are homeless or in the criminal justice system and work with schools, colleges and communities to deliver awareness and education workshops on substance use.
See the drop-down information below or get in touch
Our work with young people is very much led by the individual and we can see them where they feel most comfortable – at home, in school, at a youth club or anywhere in the community.
It could be providing some short-term support, with one to three one-to-one sessions covering harm reduction, advice and education and, as appropriate, signposting to other support services. We can also support in a more structured way, providing treatment over a longer period, where the young person would have a care plan with goals set by them to work towards with support.
We also support young people between the ages of 18 and 25 to take them through to our adult services or to complete the work or goals they set before turning 18.
We help young people who are homeless or in the youth justice system or at risk of entering it.
We have teams based with Cardiff and the Vale’s youth justice services and within the Multi-Disciplinary Homeless team in Cardiff who work with young people who are homeless or in temporary accommodation.
These workers also offer support and drop-in services to all of the hostels in the Cardiff area.
Our specialist team also deliver workshops with groups of young people in schools and colleges and other community youth settings.
These are all delivered for free and tailored to large groups, up to whole-year groups, or smaller identified groups and can be delivered out of hours if required.
We also deliver awareness and education campaigns and join community events as part of this.
How we can help
We support people to minimise the risks they take when using drugs or alcohol; enable those who want to move or continue to stay away from their use; and educate around drug and alcohol use. We work with any young person struggling with their or someone else's drug or alcohol use.
We have teams of professionals with particular specialisms and peers whose experience of drug and alcohol use makes them very well-placed to provide support.
